Giacomo Corti

Sono un Dirigente di Ricerca presso l’Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, del quale sono responsabile della Sede Secondaria di Firenze.

Mi sono laureato in Scienze Geologiche presso l’Università degli studi di Firenze nel 1997, ed ho conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in Scienze della Terra presso l’Università degli Studi di Pisa nel 2003. La mia principale attività di ricerca è relativa all’analisi dalla dinamica del rifting continentale e sviluppo di sistemi di rift valleys, con particolare riferimento all’evoluzione del Sistema di Rift dell’Africa Orientale e al Rift Etiopico. Sono inoltre interessato all’analisi dei processi di genesi e migrazione dei magmi e agli aspetti vulcano-tettonici legati all’estensiona continentale. Le mia attività di ricerca inoltre è focalizzata sulla modellizzazione analogica sperimentale di processi tettonici a varie scale, dalla collisione continentale, alla deformazione trascorrente, deformazione polifasica, alla relazione tra tettonica e messa in posto, a processi geomorfolgici (es. dinamica del flusso glaciale). Altri linee di ricerca comprendono: dinamica di estensione nel Golfo della California (Messico), modellizzazione analogica sperimentale di vari processi geologici (collisione continentale, deformazione polifasica, messa in posto di magmi, processi geomorfici), dinamica ed evoluzione del Rift del Baikal (Russia), dinamica del flusso glaciale in Antartide, tettonica attiva in Appennino Settentrionale e tettonica dell’America Centrale (El Salvador). La mie attività sono basate sulla cooperazione con numerose istitutizioni scientifiche internazionali.

Sono inserito nella lista World’s Top 2% Scientists della Stanford University. Sono autore o co-autore di più di 140 pubblicazioni sulle principali riviste internazionali (es: Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, Geology, Earth Science Reviews, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Tectonics, ecc), con un H-index di 49 (Google Scholar) e 41 (Scopus), e più di 200 presentazioni a congressi internazionali e nazionali. Sono autore del libro divulgativo “Geologia e paesaggi della rift valley in Etiopia”. Sono revisore per numerose riviste scientifiche internazionali (es: Nature Geoscience, Nature Communications, Geology, Earth and Planetary Science Letters, Journal of Geophysical Research, Tectonics, etc.) e revisore di progetti di numerose istituzioni scientifiche internazionali (es: ERC, European Commission; European Geophysical Union; National Science Foundation, USA; American Chemical Society, USA; Natural Environment Research Council, United Kingdom; Helmholtz Association, Germany; ecc).

Sono stato membro di commissioni o revisore unico di tesi di dottorato presso istituzioni nazionali e internazionali (Australia, Finlandia, Spagna, Svezia, Olanda, Svizzera). Ho effettuato relazioni ad invito a congressi internazionali e nazionali (es. EGU Vienna, Riftlink Germany, Analog modelling of tectonic processes workshop Texas USA, SIMP-AIC meeting, Geoitalia, Congresso Società Geologica Italiana) e ho effettuato seminari per numerose istituzioni in Italia e all’estero (es. Bulgaria, Etiopia, Finlandia, Messico, Regno Unito). Sono inoltre stato guest editor di riviste scientifiche internazionali (Tectonphysics, Interpretation, Italian Journal of Geosciences, Bollettino di Geofisica Teorica e Applicata).

Sono stato l’organizzatore principale di conferenze nazionali e internazionali (es: GeoMod2008, the Third International Geological Modelling) e sono stato convener e chairman di sessioni a congressi nazionali e internazionali (es: AGU San Francisco, EGU Vienna, Geomod, Congress of the Italian Geological Society). Sono stato professore a contratto dell’Università di Firenze (2013-2021). Coopero con numerose scuole e istituzioni locali per attività di divulgazione per le sensibilizzazione della popolazione in ambito di rischio sismico e ho preso parte a divers trasmissioni in TV e Radio.
